Single Use Contact Lenses:
When was the last time you used a handkerchief instead a tissue? A rag instead of a paper towel? A sponge on a stick instead of toilet paper? (That's what the ancient Romans used). Then why would you want to reuse a contact lens?
Soft contact lenses are made of materials that are porous and no matter how well you care for them they are never as clean as the first time you wear them. The more they are re-used, the more matter accumulates on them. Matter like proteins, mucous, calcium. All of which contribute to discomfort, eye allergies, and infections.
If you look at the lens above you will notice even after cleaning it still has debris and deposits on it.
Single use contacts are 25 times safer than wearing contacts as extended wear (sleeping in them). They are also 5 times safer than wearing re-usable daily wear contacts.
Sadly, a 2011 study showed that while 85% of patients believed they were compliant in their contact lens wear and care regimen less than 0.5% were fully so. Single use lenses address that issue.
Single use contact lenses are hands down the best option for contact lens wear. It is the healthiest, safest, most comfortable, and most convenient way to wear contact lenses.
In a recent survey, 99% of the eyecare professionals polled indicated that they believe that single use lenses are the freshest modality of contact lens wear.
